Island Harvest

For December 2020, MBV Gives Back will be working with Island Harvest as their charity.

Island Harvest was founded in 1992 by one woman with a cooler, a station wagon, and a strong desire to help people in need. Linda Breitstone, the founder, was infuriated that food from a local convenience store was being thrown away at the end of the day – with a safe house for women and children down the street. In response, she established Island Harvest and their mission, “to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island.”

Since those early days, Island Harvest has become Long Island’s largest hunger-relief organization.

“We are very excited and proud to be working with Island Harvest for 2020.  The pandemic and resulting shutdowns have transformed the need for food and supplies into a dire situation for many families.” said Thomas Stridiron, CEO of My Business Venture.

As the challenges surrounding the pandemic stretch on, My Business Venture is thrilled to offer a new, “pandemic-proof” way to get much needed supplies directly to Island Harvest: You Give Goods!  Visit: https://yougivegoods.com/mbvgivesback to shop and ship items you would normally purchase and drop off.  Not sure what to buy? MBV is also proud to offer collection boxes at it’s Smithtown, NY office!

We invite you to join our Winter Wishes Campaign Collection and make a meaningful holiday experience to those who struggle with hunger every day.

Christmas Magic

For December 2019, MBV Gives Back will be working with Christmas Magic as their charity.

Christmas Magic was founded 33 years ago as a way to provide children living in homeless shelters with gifts for kids who weren’t going to have any presents or be able to Celebrate Christmas because of their situation.  Over the years, Christmas Magic is now shared with more than 11,000 Long Island Kids in over 55 shelters, agencies, programs, churches, and schools.

My Business Venture, in conjunction with the Wildwood Warriors Triathlon Team, have teamed up to adopt 150 childrenin various shelters on Long Island.  In addition to purchasing gifts for each child, we will also be hosting a holiday event where Santa will distribute a gift to each child and there will be food and refreshments for all that attend.  Our goal is to raise at least $50 per child in order to be able to make this holiday a little brighter for these children whose families are struggling at this time.

“We are very excited to be working with Christmas Magic for a second year,” said Thomas Stridiron, CEO of My Business Venture.  “Last year’s event was a something that truly touched my heart. We could think of no better idea than to step in and increase our goal to help 150 children this year. Watching a young child smile as Santa hands them a gift is something you simply cannot put a price on,” said Stridiron.

MBV Gives Back always covers 100% of all administrative costs involved in fundraising, which ensures that every penny received goes directly to the charity.

Mini Maniac Triathlon

For August 2019, MBV Gives Back worked with the Lightning Warriors as their charity.

The Lightning Warriors are a Youth Triathlon Team and a not for profit organization focused on making the sport of triathlon available to all young athletes.  Their goal is to unlock each members potential, both athletically and leadership wise.  As a member of the Lightning Warriors, all coaching, equipment and race fees are provided to the child at no cost. This gives underprivileged children the opportunity to participate in a sport that would otherwise be difficult.  In August, the Lightning Warriors held their first annual Youth Triathlon for children ages 7-13 years old.  Our company Founder and CEO, Thomas Stridiron resides on the Board of Directors for the Lightning Warriors and My Business Venture is also a team sponsor.

“As a fellow triathlete, I got no greater joy than watching these young children swim, bike, and run their way to the finish line.  At such a young age, the confidence they gain from completing this kind of event will carry over into every other part of their lives,” said Thomas Stridiron, CEO of MBV. “For our first event to be a sellout with over 130 children was something we did not expect but the community really rallied around this event,” said Stridiron.

My Business Venture helped volunteer at the event, and was also one of the corporate sponsors for the race.  We are thankful for the many volunteers, parents, and young athletes for coming together and making this such an amazing and inspirational day.

Long Island Coalition for the Homeless

For July 2018, MBV Gives Back will be working with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless as their charity.

The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless was founded in 1995 and works to help provide assistance to the homeless population here on Long Island, NY.  They work with the US Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for funding for the homeless and the various needs that arise such as housing, clothing, and food.  This month, MBV Gives Back will be working with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless to secure school supplies for the many homeless children here on Long Island.

Items such as backpacks, pencils, erasers, pens, calculators and so much more is needed for these children and MBV Gives Back will look to raise these supplies as well as awareness for LICH.

“We are so fortunate to be in a position to help make even a small difference in the lives of these children.  We are going to do what we can to have a positive impact and help them get the supplies they need for school this upcoming September.  Growing up, my family depended on the kindness of others to make ends meet so this charity has a special place in my heart,” says Thomas Stridiron, CEO of My Business Venture.

MBV has put together backpacks loaded with all of the supplies that are needed for each child.   To donate a backpack loaded with all of the supplies, the price is $35.00.  That will sponsor one child this school year.  If you donate $100.00, that will pay for 3 backpacks loaded with school supplies.

MBV Gives Back always covers 100% of all administrative costs involved in fundraising, which ensures that every penny received goes directly to the charity.

Birthday Wishes

For January, MBV Gives back chose Birthday Wishes of Long Island as their charity.  Birthday Wishes works with well over 120 homeless shelters on Long Island and provides birthday parties to the homeless children living in these shelters.  Without Birthday Wishes, these children would not celebrate a birthday.

MBV Gives Back teamed up with the Wildwood Warriors Triathlon team to deliver the biggest donation ever received by Birthday Wishes.   Through the efforts of many people, we were able to raise $5400 worth of toys for their cause.

“It was incredible how everyone stepped up and helped make this happen,” said Thomas Stridiron, CEO of My Business Venture.  “We had contributions from so many people, we had to get a truck so that we could fit all the toys we had received.”

In fact, Birthday Wishes was nervous that they may not have enough room for all of the donations but in the end, they were able to fit them all in their location, but it wasn’t easy!

MBV Gives Back continues to work with Birthday Wishes by sponsoring a few birthday parties each month to help support their great work.
